Stop Grinding Teeth: A Few Simple Tips to Follow

If you want to stop grinding teeth, then there is no specific cure. The truth is that it all depends on the reasons why you’re grinding your teeth in the first place.

For some people, it’s down to stress or anxiety – so it’s well worth thinking about what could be causing those problems in your life, and doing what you can to help reduce them. For example, you could see your doctor or start counselling. You could also simply try to exercise more or practice relaxation techniques and meditation.

But sometimes this simply won’t work. Here are my top tips to stop you grinding teeth.

1) Try to avoid or at least reduce how much food and drink you have that includes caffeine. This means cola, chocolate and coffee.
2) Try to drink less alcohol, or avoid it altogether.
3) Try to relax your jaw at night by holding a warm cloth against your cheek.
4) Don’t chew on things like gum, or pens and pencils. In short, don’t chew anything that isn’t food as this makes your jaw get used to clenching.
5) Try to train yourself to stop. Whenever you notice clenching or grinding during the way, put the your tongue in between your two sets of teeth to train yourself to stop and to let your jaw relax.

Mouth guards are commonly put forward as a treatments for bruxism, however, they generally just stop the effects and don’t work on the cause. The methods above will help you to a certain extent, but if you really want to stop grinding teeth for good then I recommend checking out the Bruxism Cure.
